Activities » Use of biogas for generation of electricity By

Down scale power generation is in great demand for household sector, but biogas run genset are not available in market. The available gensets on biogas are of capacity 10 kva and above. The rural and semi-urban areas always load shading of more than 12 hours a day. The power requirement is met by using invertors. Full charging of inverter batteries is also not possible. Now technology of converting organic waste into biogas at down scale is available with ARTI. The cost of power generation by using petrol or kerosene is very high. These gensets are modified and converted on LPG. In the process of conversion two brass nipples are fitted on the carburetor and manifold respectively. The LPG supply given to carburetor and gaskit (vaporizer). The second connection of gas kit given to manifold. This technology is well established. Supply of biogas with constant pressure is possible with ARTI’s low pressure biogas system. Gas kits arrangement is not required. The biogas is supplied through two nipples which are already fitted to carburetor during conversion to LPG. The engine is started on petrol and after 10 to 15 minutes biogas is introduce slowly by reducing petrol supply to zero and engine run 100 % on biogas. The genset is Birla Yamaha make, capacity 1400 watt, petrol start kerosene run. The maximum output on biogas (60% methane) is 1200 watt. Per unit cost of power generation of petrol start kerosene run engine is Rs.17/-. The cost of petrol start biogas run genset is Rs.5/- per unit. The conversion ratio of biogas to power in this genset is 1:1. It means 1 m3 biogas generates 1 unit of electricity.
